I have added two pieces on Gai Paris, one of 1996 and one dating from the same period but published in this form in 2002. They both sum up my attempt to think through cruising and cruise through urban thinking as a participant in these modalities of life, but also to deal with time worn questions of ideas of a national culture, of queer specificity etc etc. It amuses me to read them right now, as i recall that I got very interested in gay abjection, the remants of historical abjection as re-invested pleasure in our times, and even in the differences between Genet and Jouhandeau. As Didier Eribon and David Halperin are on the brink of legal dispute over who first thought of these combinations, these pieces might help to remind readers that ideas circulate in a long, long term and times and in places, and that they are never fully our own.
